My Philosophy
This
is
simple.
This is not just
my business. It's my life. I am
honored to work for my families.
I love what I
can do for my families. It shows in my
work and my prices.
I charge
$150.00/hr to shoot the event, $300.00 (flat
fee) to process the images and any approved
expenses. I have a 1-hour minimum.
You can buy any
album, from any manufacturer in the world, at
wholesale costs.
You can build
your own album, work directly with the lab and
do your own post-production work... or I can do
it all for you.
If I am involved
with your album design services, I will charge
$100.00 per hour, plus materials.
I will use the
best cameras in the world... Hasselblad and
Noblex panoramic cameras.
I will shoot
your event with the 22 million pixel or 60
million pixel Phase One digital Back.
I will shoot
your pictures as RAW files, which will be
personally converted into 300dpi JPEG and TIFF
files.
You will receive
and you will own everything that I shoot for you
and your family.
You'll be able
to pay wholesale prices for your pictures, if
you use my recommended "pro Lab"
Depending
on
how
much
time
you
buy,
I
offer
thousands
of
dollars
worth
of
FREE
services
and
products.
I am
a success
because of Hasselblad .
...
In 1972,
as a
pre-dental
student, I
found myself
creatively
bored with
my
thoughtful scientific life.
I wanted to
be able to
create
something
that would
last forever
or that
would
benefit
someone.
But, my
graphic
design
energies had
been
stifled,
during my 8
years in
College and
University
science
classes.
Like a
"demon",
there was
something
inside of me
that had to
get out.
It was
almost
tangible.
On a whim, I
took some
University-level photo
classes. I
desperately
needed
a creative
outlet and
I
immediately
fell in
love with
photography.
Within
the next 6
months, I
graduated
with my B.S.
in Zoology, built
my first
darkroom in
the garage
below my
apartment and
became
obsessed
with
everything
photographic.
I had worked
full time
all through
college,
supporting
myself as a
liquor-deli
manager for
a large
chain of
grocery
stores, in
Orange
County.
I was used
to working
for
different
people,
interacting
with my
customers,
making
high-level
financial
decisions,
setting
goals,
meeting
objectives
and
continually
testing my
own personal
ideals.
While I was
still a
photography student,
I
interviewed
local, working
pro
photographers,
paying them
for their
time.
I saw, first
hand, how the
best
photo equipment
made their
jobs easier.
I watched
how they
worked and
I listened to
their
business points-of-view. All of
the
successful
shooters
used Hasselblad
medium
format
cameras.
In the 70's,
the best
camera, by
far, was
the
"medium
format" Hasselblad.
It still is.
So, in
1973, I
bought my
first two
"medium
format"
Hasselblad
cameras.
I also
bought a
couple of 35mm
Nikon F3
cameras, so
that I could
shoot 35mm
slides. I
could easily
see that the
larger Hasselblad
image was
much nicer
than
anything I
could create
using my
35mm camera system.
Today, I
use the
latest,
digital Hasselblad
H1, medium
format,
cameras.
I am able to
shoot medium
format, high
definition
film as well
as 22
and 60
million
pixel
digital
assignments. I am proud
to say that
they are the
best cameras
in the
world.
They are
also the most
expensive
cameras
available.
They produce
the best
pictures
possible.
NASA has
used
Hasselblad
cameras for
more than 40 years.
I did my
first
commercial
ad job and
my first
wedding in
1973.
Now, I'm at
the point of
shooting
Weddings,
Bat or Bar
Mitzvahs for
the
sons and daughters of
my first
series of
families.
After I
graduated, I
spent the
next 4 years
taking
every
photography
class I
could find.
I spent
countless
weekends at
photo
seminars all
across the
country.
I met with
all of the
big name
photographers,
watched
their video
tapes,
joined
various
photography
organizations
and
I
read
everything I
could find about
photography.
I did
everything
possible to
increase my
own skills,
as quickly
as possible.
Then,
one day, I decided
that it was
time for me to
stop being
just a
student.
It was time
for me
to become "a
real,
working photographer". Within a
week, I
assembled my
portfolio,
bought a
nice 3-piece suit,
made a
couple of phone
calls gave
notice to my
grocery
store boss and
landed one
interview.
That was
all I
needed.
I was
literally hired
on the spot
and I
started to
move into my
new darkroom
later that
day.
Overnight, I
had become a
Medical and Public
Relations
Photographer
for a major
Medical
Center in
the Los
Angeles
area.
I
immediately moved all
of my
personal darkroom
equipment
and photo
studio stuff
out of my
garage and into an
unused
physical
therapy
room, at the
Medical
Center.
My darkroom
"sink" was an
old
bathtub.
I put sheets
of plywood
and black
plastic over
the windows,
picked up my
name badge
and pulled
on a pair of
"scrubs".
I was on my
own and I
was luvin'
it ! I
had just
taken a 60%
cut in pay
and I
couldn't
have been
happier. I was their
Photo
Department.
I quickly
learned how to do everything by myself. I
was booking assignments, meeting with
executives, shooting surgeries and building
slide shows. I was never busier and I had
never dreamed that "work" could be so much fun.
Every day
that I went
to "work", I
found that I
was using
all of my
life
experiences
to solve
my visual
communications problems.
My
extensive science
and medical
education
background was being
put to use
every day.
I knew what
the doctors
and their
staff were
doing.
I could
converse
with them.
I was being
creative and
I felt
needed.
I
belonged
there.
While
working full
time at the
Medical
Center, I
also found
time to
teach
different
kinds of photography
to
huge classes of children,
college
students
and adults,
for
the Long
Beach and
the Palos Verdes
Recreation
Departments.
I enjoyed
their
inspirations
and their
results.
I continued
doing small
advertising
assignments,
shooting
Products,
Food, Special
Events,
Weddings,
Bat and Bar
Mitzvahs, Quinceaneras
and Private
Parties. Then, I started
flying
in Robinson R22 helicopters,
so that I
could also shoot
from the sky.
In
1985,
while
still working
full-time at
the Medical
Center, I started my
own commercial
photography business.
I called it
"The Media
Master" because
I could do
so many things.
I
specialized
in shooting
Aerial,
Industrial,
Commercial,
Food, Medical,
Legal,
Advertising
and
Corporate
Special
Event
assignments.
Everything
was
inter-related.
At some
point, I
decided that
I could no
longer
juggle the Medical
Center work,
my teaching
and all of The
Media Master
work.
I had to
re-organize
my
priorities.
My wife and
I decided
that it was time
to leave my
Medical
Center
family
behind.
While it was
necessary,
it was one
of the
hardest
decisions
that I have
ever made.
That one
"job"
prepared me,
quite
literally,
for the rest
of my life.
My wife,
my younger
brother,
another
photographer
friend
and I opened
our first
3,000 square
foot studio
in 1987. A
few years later,
we expanded
to 6,000 square
feet. My
brother was
in charge of
our
computer-generated
slide-production
business and
my wife ran
the
financial
side of the
business. I
"kindda"
managed
the whole
business.
We picked up
a sales rep
and a couple
wonderful,
beautiful
ladies who
helped us
meet our
very short deadlines.
Unfortunately,
the bigger
our business
got, the
less I was
able to
shoot and
that
bothered me
a lot.
I had become a manager.
We operated our
own small lab,
photo studio,
computer-generated slide show production
center, ENG
digital
video
production
center and
a general sales
office. We did a lot of
work
for car
companies,
hospitals,
fast-food
chains, law
firms, the
Government, a
wide variety of
local
businesses
and some national
corporations.
In 1999,
we decided
that our
clientele
had changed
during the
last 15
years. We no
longer
needed our
6,000sf studio. I
had been
doing the
vast
majority of
my work out
on location.
That was
more
convenient
for my
clients and
it saved
them money.
So, in 2000, we
closed our
studio. Now, I
just lease a
studio when
and where I need one. It
is always
the right
size and I
can let
someone else
pay for it
when it is
not being
used.
I am
available
anywhere in
the nation,
24 hours a
day, ever
day of the
year.
That
saves me
money, which,
in turn,
saves my
clients
money.
I have shot
an open
house at the
German
Consulate,
in San
Francisco.
I have
worked with
foreign
translators
in San Jose.
I have shot
golf courses
all around
the country.
I have done
weddings in
Hawaii,
Cancun, Tahoe, Las
Vegas, San
Diego, Los
Angeles and
Santa
Barbara.
I've done
conventions
in Hawaii
and Cancun.
I have
photographed
cookies,
salads, ice
cream,
meats, pies and
whole meals in
huge
commercial
kitchens and
in freezers.
I use the
real deal. I
don't like
the look of
the fake
food.
I have done
freeway construction
and subway
investigation assignments
during the
middle of
the night.
I have shot
accident
reconstruction,
arson crime
scenes,
murder
scenes,
construction
defect
buildings,
earthquake
damaged
structures,
hill slides
and airline
crashes.
My
advertising
experiences
includes interiors/exteriors,
food,
furniture,
computers,
autos and
conceptual
ideas.
I've done
huge
graphics for
conventions
and trade
shows.
This list is
almost
endless.
How may I
help you?
Historically,
I have
worked all
around
Southern
California,
especially
Orange
County, Los
Angeles
County and
San Diego
County.
The Inland
Empire (San
Bernardino
County and
Riverside
County) is
also one of
my "hot
spots".
I'm
available
for work all
across the
nation.
My clients
have sent me
to Hawaii,
Cancun,
Florida, New
York, Las
Vegas and
San
Francisco.
No
two
photographers
are alike.
Every
photographer
has his or
her own
reasons for
doing what
they do.
Personalities,
attitudes,
ethics,
skills,
artistic
sense,
equipment
selections,
business
practices,
money
and life
experiences
all impact
on the
quality of
the final
photographic
product.
Photography,
by itself,
is an art
form.
Wedding,
Bar Mitzvah,
Bat Mitzvah,
Special
Event,
Private
Party,
Debutante
Ball and
Quinceanera
Photography
involves
continual
practice.
It requires
an immense
financial
investment
in
state-of-the-art
equipment.
It demands a
deep
understanding
of the
tools and
processes
that are
used to make
the best
possible
pictures.
Professional
photography
requires a
deep personal
commitment
and complete
dedication.
It is not
easy and it
is not
simple.
This is not
a game.
For
me, however,
it is always
a
challenge...
and an
extreme pleasure.
Photography
is like
playing a
fine musical
instrument.
It is one
thing to
just play an
instrument.
It is quite
another to
be able to
"make
beautiful
music".
That's a
gift.
Real
music comes
from the
soul of the
musician.
It is inside
the body and
the mind.
It can be
felt.
It's essence
can't be
taught.
It can only
be refined
and
tempered. Often, the
great "pitch
perfect"
musicians
will just
close their
eyes and
play.
They know
their
instruments
so well that
they simply
move with
their
emotions and
their music
just flows
out of them.
"They put
their hearts
into it."
If you
listen
carefully,
you'll be
able to feel
those
emotions.
Although
they may
spend a
lifetime
"practicing",
their music
comes
naturally.
Photography
is my gift.
I have been
practicing
for the last
36 years
just so that
I will be
ready for
your event.
For me,
working
one-on-one
with
interesting
people and
taking their
pictures
comes
naturally.
But I sure
have worked
hard to get
to this
point.
This is not
just my
business...
it's my
life.
This is
not just my
"hobby" or a
second
"job". I'm
not just doing
this just to
make a
little extra
money on the
weekends.
I am not
just doing
this until
something
better comes
along.
It is
hard to
explain but
I have
to do this.
I have no
choice.
This is
what I am.
The art
of my photography draws
from the
very core of
my
personality. It
employs
careful
compositions
and
purposeful
contrasts.
It is
emotion,
drama and
story.
This is
theater.
It uses
the latest
in
technology
and the
oldest of
psychology.
It
thrives on
thoughtful
intentions,
subtle
methods and
a level of
pre-visualization
that is very
much
determined
by my heart.
I can
"feel" my
pictures
before I
even get
ready to
shoot them.
My mind
"sees"
things in
terms of
content and
design.
I can become
magically
involved
with the
pure design
and
intricate
details of
fabric,
flowers and
frostings.
Thank you
for your
interest.
I would love
to meet with
you, in
person, at
any time and
any place.
I will come
to you.
No
pressure, no
obligation
and no cost.
I will bring
lots of
huge 16x20
prints,
several
different
albums, my
equipment
and my
personality.
We can go
over your
entire event
and I can
give you my
best bid for
doing your
photography.
It will be my
pleasure.
